The Lengths God Goes To!
It was a warm sunny day here in Playa del Carmen and I was sitting in an outside café with Peter, my partner enjoying a cool drink watching the world go by. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw two girls approach our table, they were smiling, and so happy, you could feel the joy emanating from them.
Anyone who has ever visited 5th Avenue in Playa will know that it’s a common occurrence to be approached by the locals who are begging for money, as this is the main tourist area where every day hundreds of people pass by on their way to somewhere.
The two young ladies didn’t resemble any of the locals, they both had blonde hair, and they were laughing and smiling, as they each handed us a piece of paper and wished us a wonderful day, filled with divine blessings. We watched as they skipped off down the street, full of energy, their hair swishing from side to side and I couldn’t help noticing that we were the only ones they gave their sheets of paper to, even though the tables around us were filled with people.
Still surprised at their sudden appearance, I was curious to see what they had given us. Before I had a chance to read what was on the folded A5 sheets I heard giggling and looked up to see the same two happy girls who were once again standing in front of us, they had come back. One of them said, “we’ve given you the wrong paper, which she promptly removed from my hand, and replaced with another folded one! Before departing, in unison, I heard them say “God loves you and wants you to know. Have a beautiful day,” right before they disappeared into the busy crowded street, their giggles still audible above the sounds in the street.
Checking they had definitely gone, my curiosity got the better of me and I looked down at what they had given us. We both had a different sheet, each one had images of hearts, the world, a picture tag which said, ‘WITH LOVE’, a symbol that said ‘LOVE IS LOVE’ with more hearts on it, and another picture with ‘THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, AND FAITHFULNESS’ on it which looked like it was taken from the bible. One of the sheets finished with ‘Welcome to your Wonderful new Life!’ Each paper had a little package stuck to it with pretty tape and containing a sweet little crystal cross, one pink, one blue!
The following is one of the messages that was written on one of the sheets we were given:
“Dear friend, today I want to tell you that God loves you, not for what you do or for your achievements or efforts. Many times, we make mistakes, we feel guilt or disappointment for the mistakes made, but remember that God is love, God loves you because he wants to love you.
God longs to have a relationship with you…that you can see, hear, and trust his word. Cry out to Him and He will show you great and hidden things that you do not know!”
There was more, but you get the drift. We sat smiling and contemplating the surprise messages, the pretty little gifts, with smiles on our faces, and happiness in our hearts.
I would like to invite you to do the same, to ponder that this message has come to you today as a reminder that you are loved and that if you ask, everything will be revealed to you. Sometimes, in the most unexpected ways, and that God (The Divine) comes to us when we least expect it!
