Self-sabotage

There are many ways that we unintentionally sabotage our lives, whether that is when we try to stick to routines that are healthy and more productive but conveniently forget, avoid, or distract ourselves. Or, when we look for love but attract all the wrong partners or any other situation where we undermine our own goals and values when we genuinely want and believe something is good for us, but then we do things that directly conflict with that goal.

Regardless of the way in which we undermine our own values, it is not impossible to break the patterns that created them in the first place. Firstly, we can start to become aware of our own, thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that trigger the destruction in the first place. Whether we use procrastination, perfectionism, or another form of sabotage such as self-medication, we have the power, and ability to change our own lives.

We can start by becoming watchful of our reactions to certain people, events, and situations that regularly occur. By recognising when we repeatedly respond to certain situations it can be helpful to have a journal which records your actions. It can be truly beneficial to recognise when you are triggered into action and record the details.

For example, if we are trying to gain a healthier lifestyle but keep reaching for the products that will not benefit us, journalling or making a note of what happens brings it to the forefront of our attention. When it is in black and white, we can become observers of our actions and without censorship, take ownership of our behaviour.

It can make us feel uncomfortable at first because the natural tendency is to avoid looking at the truth. Yet, your truth is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. If we can be honest with ourselves, we can make changes, and we can ask for help. When this biggest hurdle is overcome, we will be well on the way to breaking the unhealthy, unconscious programmes that we are running.

Have you ever found yourself procrastinating? Procrastination is just one way that we sabotage ourselves. We are fired up to start a new project, and sit down to get started, only to find we can’t begin, all motivation has completely disappeared. To avoid the task, you find other less meaningful jobs like decluttering your cupboards or cleaning out your shed as this can be less overwhelming than making a start on something that would make a positive impact on your life.

Like anything, we can train ourselves to be conscious, active creators of a healthy lifestyle and well-being. It will mean making small changes and steps so first start to recognise and acknowledge the way you go about things, and be willing to own what you see, feel, and experience.

Ask your angels, guides, loved ones and Soul to experience more loving thoughts about yourself, and ask that any thoughts that are not loving to yourself be dissolved. Ponder how your thoughts would be different if they reflected more self-love. Notice if there are any thoughts you would like to release and observe if there are any new loving thoughts that come into your mind as you open to receiving your Soul’s love.

Finally, ask to be shown the way, a new way that would align you with your highest ideals, and pathway in this lifetime. A life of abundance, clarity, freedom, and truth and don’t be afraid to try something new, something exciting, for it will be shown to you when you remember to ask.

A new life, new experiences, new people, and new purpose is waiting for you so be gentle on yourself, recognise when you are self-sabotaging and be open and willing to move on and let the old go. Small baby steps, one change at a time, there’s no rush when you’re planning for a successful future. Take time to ponder on how your life would be if you took that one first step. Give yourself time to daydream, visualise, imagine, dream, make that call, send that email, search your options and then move confidently forward, one step at a time.
