Dancing Girl… 12 December 21
I’m sat looking out onto a busy street in the heart of Playa del Carmen watching a beautiful Mexican dancer perform. Her brightly colourful native dress catching the light of the sun, displaying reds, yellows, greens, pinks, as she twirls and swirls to the sound of the Hispanic music. The flowers in her hair dancing this way, and that way, as she moves to the beat, and stamps her feet in traditional flair.
I’m mesmerised by the sights and sounds before me, as the dancer grips the edges of her skirt and spins around, and around. What happened next took my breath away, a young girl, probably around 5 years of age went up to the dancer and stood directly in front of her. They both looked at each other for what seemed like forever, then smiled. The dancer continued her dance, and the little girl matched her, mirror images, moving and flowing, the girl, her face alight with delight, purity, and innocence…and time stood still, I was completely lost in the moment watching the two dancers perform in unison, one big, one small.
All too soon the little figure stopped, looked up at the dancer waved and turned and ran towards her mother who had been waiting, and watching the whole time breaking the spell I was under. That moment will be etched in my mind forever.
It serves as a reminder to be open and ready for the magic of life, it is always there for us if we remember to observe the beauty around us that we can so often miss.
